Panorama also showcased the Airship Project which aims to develop a helium based "Flying Ship" similar to the Zeppelin airship. A successful test flight of the prototype was conducted at the event. Also on display was the Supercritical Fluid Extraction Plant (for natural product extraction) developed by the Department of Chemical Engineering, and currently manufactured and marketed by Deven Supercrticals, Pune. India is the fourth entrant in the select group of nations that have successfully implemented this technology.
The Universal Networking Language (UNL) Project of the Computer Science Department was one of the best IT projects on display. IIT Bombay is the Indian representative for this United Nations sponsored project, which will enable the Internet to represent content in various local Indian languages.
Workshops on Forensics, Artificial Intelligence, HAM Radio, CAD/CAM and Robotics featured sessions from eminent specialists on the respective topics. Aimed at providing the participants with a background on these topics, some workshops also included hands-on sessions and live-demonstrations, which helped the participants better understand and appreciate the intricacies of these technologies. Hacked! – the Internet Security workshop at Techfest 2002 also had delegates from the Indian Army attending.

A myriad set of competitions focusing on different aspects of technology ranging from robotics and electronics to socially relevant issues also formed part of Techfest.

Students from all over the country presented innovative solutions to technically challenging problems. With support from the eminent judging panels for each competition, Techfest seeks to provide a platform that can bring together industry and the student community to effectively harness the talent that the students possess.
Industry involvement has always been one of the main thrusts of Techfest. The 2002 festival saw technology leaders like Mercedes-Benz, Caldera Systems, i2 Technologies and Veritas Software, as well as industry leaders like Hindustan Construction Company, Citibank, Indian Oil Corporation and IMC India participate with interest.
Techfest today offers a multitude of opportunities to the student community to come forth with their ideas and to industry and academia to be able to interact with the students. A unique and a growing event, in the future Techfest promises to transform into a grand, multidisciplinary forum for exchange of the best ideas in the realm of technology, business and society.
